Most people who don't pass their final test make the same handful of mistakes. Know them in advance and you'll walk in ready.
1. Lazy mirror checks
Glancing isn't checking. Assessors want to see regular, deliberate mirror checks, especially before changing lanes, turning and stopping.
2. Clipping kerbs on turns
Trucks need a wide swing, especially on left turns. Position early, go slow, and watch your back wheels in the mirror.
3. Wrong gear for the situation
Labouring the engine uphill, or coasting downhill. Choose your gear before you need it.
4. Rushing
Nerves make people speed up. Do the opposite. A calm, controlled drive impresses far more than a quick one.
5. Following too closely
Heavy vehicles take longer to stop. Leave a generous gap and keep it.
6. Poor planning ahead
Late braking for lights you could have seen coming. Read the road far ahead and ease off early.
7. Skipping the basics before you start
The assessment covers more than driving. A sloppy pre-operational check or a poorly adjusted seat and mirrors sets the wrong tone from minute one.
